Educational Philosophy and Courses

Our educational philosophy, rooted in the rich traditions of Folk High School, emphasizes Visual Arts and Finnish Language Courses. At Kouvola, delve into a range of art courses such as Visual Arts, Graphic Design, Game Art, Photography, and Cartoons and Illustration, all taught in Finnish. For those requiring flexibility, selected subjects are available through online and distance learning options.

In Hamina and Kouvola, our language centers offer Finnish courses for foreigners at various proficiency levels. These courses are ideal for immigrants integrating into Finnish society or individuals residing and working in the region.

Student Life and Opportunities

Each year, we guide over 200 full-time students, including young individuals preparing for higher education or careers in Visual Arts. Our courses, ranging from a term to a year, cater to both the youth and adults seeking to explore new interests or plan for the future. Beyond formal education, our Community Learning Courses during the term are open to all ages. These courses cover a spectrum of interests, from pottery, woodwork, and language studies to yoga, weaving, music, and more. With about 1,800 annual participants, these classes promote community engagement and lifelong learning.
