The Kymenlaakso College (Kymenlaakson Opisto, fin.) riverside campus offers an excellent setting for summer camping for up to 60 people of all ages. During term time, the campus provides high standards of visual arts education to students inclusively with accommodation, while respecting the historical Folk High School teaching methods. During the summer months – the campus can be hired for other use.
The campus in Inkeroinen is conveniently situated in the middle of Kymenlaakso county in Southeast Finland, between the cities of Kotka and Kouvola. It has great transport links from all over Finland, for example under 2 hours by car from the Helsinki airport. The Kymi River runs next to the campus while the centre of town is only a minute’s walk away. Right next door there is an indoor ice rink, swimming pool, and riverside exercise park with modern equipment including beach volleyball.
The premises include a dormitory with 28 comfortable double rooms, all with en suite shower rooms. The facilities are great for groups or families alike, with 4 shared open-plan living rooms & kitchens. Other facilities include a sauna, a fireplace room and numerous other spaces suitable for groups. The gardens are mainly woodland style, and there is a fire pit for those campfire evenings. Unfortunately, due to different levels on the property and the lack of lifts, the overall campus is not suitable for wheelchair users.
The main building includes offices, a library, several classrooms and a large ballroom. A modern kitchen and a spacious diner can be found on the ground floor of the main building. The separate timber-built art house ‘Kulttis’, offers a hall/gym, and IT and art classes over two floors. It also has a pottery workshop, including a kiln for the creatives.
Here in Finland you may practice the ‘everyman’s-right’, and visit most forests and lakes without prior notice or permits. It is excellent for exploring the woodlands safely, from many public footpaths and nature trails. There is also amazing wilderness to be experienced for those, who wish to step away from the trails. Swimming in the lakes and rivers is a must. As there are over 100 000 lakes in Finland, your group will surely find the one, they prefer to swim in. For fishing, you may obtain a permit conveniently online.
The Kymenlaakso College campus is available to hire during the summer holidays, from the end of May till mid-August. It is possible to include meal service in the package, and teaching staff or assistants as required. We are committed to fulfilling any group’s specific camping needs for unforgettable Finnish summer, with all it has to offer.
